Traveling out to Santa Barbra for a week

I will be visiting my friend out in the Santa Barbra area, actually he lives in Ventura. Should be a good time since I have not seen him for a while. What are some things to do out there? I have never been to California and am more of a person who likes to see the land than the clubs if that makes sense.

are there any neat places to see? We are thinking about heading up to the Sequoia national forest but that may be a bit of a drive. Any suggestions would appreciated
